Il-Banju: Dan l-isem kien riferenza għall-ħabsijiet tal-ilsiera.  F’Malta kien hawn tliet ħabsijiet minn dawn: dak tal-Birgu, dak tal-Isla u dak tal-Belt Valletta.  Dawn kienu ġen. iżommu l-ilsiera Torok, Misilmin u Lhud li kienu jinqabdu waqt xi battalja navali jew meta x-xwieni tal-piraterija, bosta drabi mqabbdin mill-Ordni kienu jattakkaw bastimenti jew bliet kostali apposta biex jieħdu n-nies bħala lsiera. Dawn kienu jew jinbiegħu jew inkella jinżammu fil-ħabs imsejjaħ il-bagno. Kien jissejjaħ hekk minħabba li dawn il-ħabsijiet kellhom l-ilma fejn jinħaslu l-ilsiera, tant meħtieġ mhux biss għax-xorb u l-ħasil tal-ġisem, iżda wkoll biex iservi għar-rit liturġiku Musulman li jsir kemm-il darba matul il-jum.  Il-ħabs tal-Birgu kien imħaffer fuq għolja ’l barra minn Sant’Anġlu; dak tal-Belt Valletta kien fejn illum hemm il-Barrakka t’Isfel.  Dawn it-tnejn inqerdu fi żmien it-tieni Gwerra Dinjija bl-attakki mill-ajru. Kummenda

commandery (rarely commandry): the smallest administrative division of the European landed properties of a military order. It was also the name of the house where the knights of the commandery lived. The word is also applied to the emoluments granted to a commander. They were the equivalent for those orders to a monastic grange. The knight in charge of a commandery was a commander.
